Deshan is a writer, book designer and photographer. His work includes the children’s non-fiction book, ‘Mary Anning’s Grewsome Beasts’ (Penguin, illus. L. Brand); the comic, ‘Metta Helmet,’ which shared an Eisner and an Ignatz award (Beyond Press, illus. I. Dayaratne); and a contribution to the ‘Encyclopaedia of South Asian Design’, (forthcoming, Bloomsbury). As book designer, his practice counts 75+ books on a variety of subjects, in a range of forms. He was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar of Photography (University of Berkeley, 2009). He is currently making a series of drawings inspired by island myth and the last kingdom of Lanka.
